they had very nice picnic spots! maybe one day we will come back here and boondock.
City of Rocks State Park is a state park in New Mexico, consisting of large sculptured rock formations in the shape of pinnacles or boulders rising as high as 40 feet
we stayed at campsite 12 which was amazing! our site was surrounded by huge rocks.
we just started our cross country roadtrip and we fell so lucky to be in this beautiful country to explore all the amazing places.
50 state road trip:day 1

kids are packed and ready to go on an epic adventure. We will be taking them out of school for 1 year to do road schooling so we can follow our dream to visit all 50 states
5 Day Road Trip to Yuma and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
Day 1: driving day (about 230 miles/3 .2 hours on the road)
WE drove from Tucson to yuma and went straight to Dirty South BBQ house (our Harvest Host)
We ordered the bbq platter. It came with pulled pork, try tips, brisket and 2 sides (Mac and cheese and fries). We also got a large date shake. We parked in the lot right between the restaurant and the cauliflower patch. right behind the restaurant is Mcphaul Bridge aka the bridge to nowhere nice to do a short walk after eating a bunch of BBQ.

day 2: 2 Arizona state parks and lunch at da Boyz Italian cuisine (about 40 miles/1 hour on the road)
We woke and drove down the street to get some coffee from flying J’s and then headed to Colorado River State Historic Park. 5 minute drive you can check out another Arizona state park, Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park. After exploring 2 state parks we were starving so we hit south Main Street for some pizza and pasta at Da Boyz Italian Cuisine. Once we got done stuffing our faces we went to our boondockerswelcome host.
day 3: Ajo, Arizona and organ pipe cactus national monument(about 180 miles/3 hours on the road).
we got up and drove from yuma to ajo. We went to the visitors center and then explorered the place for a few hours. We found this cool spot called artists alley that had a bunch of cool murals. then we drove south to the organ pipe cactus national monument and checked in to our campsite at twin peaks campground.
day 4: Kris Eggle Visitor Center, Ajo Mountain Drive and new campsite (about 2 and 1/2 hours on the road)
after we got up we ate breakfast and went straight to the Kris Eggle Visitor Center. we asked the rangers what they would recommend and they suggested a few things and we ended up going to the Ajo Mountain Drive. after the beautiful scenic drive we went to our next campsite at Alamo canyon campgrounds.

day 5: driving to tucson (about 140 miles/2 and 1/2 hours on the road)
it rained all night on our final day. we packed our things and drove to Tucson on the AZ-86 eastbound (150 miles about 2 and 1/2 hours). We stop at San Xavier del Bac Mission because they sell frybread on Sundays.
